Overview

Ted Mahan joined Irwin IP as an associate in January 2021.  Ted’s practice focuses primarily on patent and trademark litigation, including post-grant proceedings before the USPTO Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Representative Matters

  • Part of a team representing a Fortune 500 manufacturer and importer of replacement and aftermarket automotive parts in litigation in the Northern District of Illinois.
  • Part of a team that favorably resolved dispute for recreational vehicle component provider in litigation in the Northern District of Indiana.

Prior Experience

While attending law school, Ted worked at an intellectual property boutique in Chicago, supporting online trademark enforcement and patent prosecution in technical fields including electric clippers, mobile device application software and packaging equipment. Ted represented clients as a clinician in Loyola’s Community Law Center, focusing on issues faced by military veterans.

As a student, Ted served as a lead article editor of the Loyola Law Journal and as president of the school’s intellectual property law society. Ted also supported legal scholarship as a research assistant to the program director.

Before pursuing his legal education, Ted served in the U.S. Air Force at the space vehicle research laboratory in Albuquerque.  Ted additionally led the mobile device certification team at the nation’s fourth largest wireless carrier.  Ted earned his undergraduate structural engineering degree from the University of Notre Dame.
